What are the continuing education requirements for a Certified Appraiser?

Certified General Appraisers, Certified Residential Appraisers, Real Estate Broker/Appraisers and Licensed Appraiser Trainees must take 28 hours of continuing education by 6/30/17 to renew their Appraiser license. I recently obtained my Appraiser Trainee license. Am I required to take continuing education?

The total number of hours of continuing education that a Licensed Appraiser Trainee (LAT) is required to complete depends on how long the license has been held. CE credits must be completed before June 30, 2017.

  • License Issue Date before July 1, 2016: LATs issued a license before 7/1/14 will be required to complete 28 hours of continuing education, including the 7-Hour National USPAP Update Course and the 2 hours on Pennsylvania Law, as a condition of renewal of licensure.
  • License Issue Date from July 1, 2016 to December 27, 2016:  LATs issued a license in this time period must complete 14 hours of continuing education, including the 7-Hour National USPAP Update Course and the 2 hours on Pennsylvania Law, as a condition of renewal of licensure.
  • License Issue Date from December 28, 2016 to June 30, 2017: LATs issued a license in this time period will not be required to complete any continuing education in order to qualify for renewal of their license June 30, 2015.

**Dates listed above are projected, based on the requirements from the 2015 renewal period and may be adjusted by the PA Appraisal Board for the 2017 renewal.
